K vs G — voiceless vs voiced velars
Phụ âm /k/ và /g/ — vô thanh và hữu thanh ngạc mềm
How to produce /k/
Cách tạo âm /k/
Back of tongue touches the soft palate. Release with a puff of air. No voice. At the start of stressed syllables, there is aspiration: /kʰ/. Found in "capital", "economic", "fiscal".
How to produce /g/
Cách tạo âm /g/
Back of tongue touches the soft palate. Release. Voice is on — throat vibrates. No aspiration. Found in "GDP", "growth", "government".
Common errors
Lỗi hay gặp
Confusing /k/ and /g/ — saying "gapital" instead of "capital". Or not aspirating /k/ at the start of stressed syllables — "capital" should have a strong puff of air.
Self-check tip
Mẹo tự kiểm tra
Hold paper in front of your mouth. Say "capital" — the paper should move on /k/. Say "growth" — the paper should barely move. Feel throat vibration for /g/ only.

KS cluster — "x" in economic words
Cụm phụ âm /ks/ — âm "x" trong từ kinh tế
How to produce
Cách tạo âm
The letter "x" in English is usually pronounced /ks/ — two sounds together. Back of tongue touches soft palate (/k/), then tongue moves forward for /s/. No voice.
vs. Vietnamese
So với tiếng Việt
Vietnamese "x" is a single sound /s/. The English /ks/ is a consonant cluster — both sounds must be produced. "Tax" = /tæks/, not /tæs/.
Common errors
Lỗi hay gặp
Dropping the /k/ — saying "tas" instead of "tax". Or adding a vowel — saying "taxe" instead of "tax". The /ks/ cluster must be pronounced as one smooth unit.
Self-check tip
Mẹo tự kiểm tra
Say "tax" — feel the back of your tongue touch the soft palate (/k/), then immediately release into /s/. The transition should be smooth and fast.

Stress in Economic Terminology
Trọng âm trong thuật ngữ kinh tế — quy tắc quan trọng
Noun vs verb stress shift
Trọng âm thay đổi: danh từ vs động từ
Many economic words change stress depending on whether they are nouns or verbs: EX-port (n.) vs ex-PORT (v.) · IM-port (n.) vs im-PORT (v.) · IN-crease (n.) vs in-CREASE (v.)
-tion / -sion endings
Đuôi -tion / -sion — trọng âm trước đuôi
Words ending in -tion or -sion are always stressed on the syllable immediately before the ending: "in-FLA-tion", "re-CES-sion", "aus-TER-ity", "pro-TEC-tion-ism".
Common errors
Lỗi hay gặp
Saying "ex-PORT" (verb stress) when using "export" as a noun. Or stressing the wrong syllable in -tion words — "IN-fla-tion" instead of "in-FLA-tion".
Self-check tip
Mẹo tự kiểm tra
For -tion words: find the syllable before -tion and stress it. For noun/verb pairs: nouns usually stress the first syllable, verbs stress the second.

Ghi âm bản thân và tự đánh giá theo rubric
Reading Passage — Economy · Session 09
Đoạn đọc — Kinh tế · Buổi 09 (từ tô màu = âm mục tiêu)
The global economy faces significant challenges. Rising inflation and the threat of recession have forced governments to make difficult choices about fiscal policy. Austerity measures can reduce budget deficits, but they often harm the most vulnerable members of society. The rise of economic protectionism threatens global trade, while tax cuts and government subsidies can stimulate growth. Capital investment in exports and complex supply chains is essential for long-term economic development.
